Indian Government Warns Windows and Office Users of Serious Security Threat

The Indian government has issued a strong warning to users of Microsoft Windows and Office about a serious security risk. The alert was released in July 2025 by CERT-In, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, and it affects millions of people using Windows and other Microsoft services like Office and Azure.

What’s the Problem?

The alert highlights multiple security issues in Microsoft’s products that could be used by hackers to harm users. These flaws can let attackers:

  • Take full control of a computer
  • Steal personal or confidential data
  • Run harmful programs remotely
  • Trick users with fake identities (spoofing)
  • Bypass security measures
  • Crash the system or change important settings

These problems could impact both individuals and businesses, making it easier for cybercriminals to break into systems and steal valuable information.

Who Is at Risk?

The threat affects a wide range of Microsoft products, including:

  • Windows operating systems
  • Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft Dynamics
  • Microsoft Edge (web browser)
  • Developer Tools
  • SQL Server
  • System Center
  • Legacy Microsoft products with Extended Security Updates (ESU)
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Various Microsoft apps

If you’re using a Windows PC or Microsoft software, your system could be vulnerable.

What Should You Do?

Microsoft has already released security updates to fix the issues. Even though there are no major signs that hackers are currently exploiting the flaws, it’s important to stay protected.

Here’s what you should do:

  1. Enable automatic updates on your Windows PC
  2. Download and install the latest updates as soon as possible
  3. Restart your computer to apply the fixes

Following these steps can help protect your system from potential threats and keep your data safe.
