CERT-In and BITS Pilani Launch Cybersecurity Training Program for Professionals

To strengthen India’s cybersecurity efforts and help professionals keep up with new digital threats, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, has signed an MoU with BITS Pilani.

Together, they will run several professional development programs focused on cybersecurity. These programs target professionals working in government departments, public sector companies, and private industry.

The main program is an eight-week cybersecurity course that starts on July 19, 2025. Anyone can join—there’s no need for coding knowledge. After completing the course, participants will receive a professional certificate in cybersecurity, issued jointly by CERT-In and BITS Pilani.

The training will be delivered by BITS Pilani’s Centre for Research Excellence in National Security (CRENS), located in Hyderabad, and supported by a private tech partner. CERT-In will help shape the program content and bring in their expertise.

The course will focus on hands-on skills, helping participants learn how to deal with real threats. It will cover topics like network security, cryptography, mobile and cloud security, and legal policies related to cybersecurity. The training will use a mix of online classes, interactive case studies, and a live project. It ends with an in-person session to wrap things up.

CERT-In’s involvement ensures the training stays updated with today’s cybersecurity challenges. As India’s main agency for handling cyber incidents, CERT-In brings vital real-world knowledge to the table.

Leadership Voices on the Mission

Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General of CERT-In, said the program is a step toward building a strong and skilled workforce that can meet digital challenges head-on. He added that a strong cybersecurity team is just as important as advanced technology.

Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani, called the effort a national mission. He said cybersecurity is not only a technical issue but a matter of national importance. He also emphasized how this joint effort between government, academia, and industry will help meet India’s growing cybersecurity needs.

The government recognized BITS Pilani as an Institution of Eminence, and it has built a long-standing reputation in education and research. Its CRENS center promotes cybersecurity innovation and works across different BITS campuses.

This new partnership aims to create a skilled talent pool for India’s digital future. It could also lead to future courses in cyber forensics, quantum security, and cybersecurity policy—helping to build a safer and more resilient digital India.
