India’s AI Growth Gets a Push with AWS-Tata Data Centre Collaboration
Share on LinkedinShare on Whatsapp

Tata Communications has teamed up with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build a powerful new network that connects AWS-Tata data centers in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai. This advanced network is designed to handle the growing demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) in India.

As more public and private organizations in India shift to digital platforms and adopt AI, they need faster and more reliable networks. This partnership helps meet that need by creating a high-speed, low-latency connection between key data centers. It allows businesses to process large amounts of data quickly and securely.

This is Tata Communications’ biggest network project in India in terms of both size and capacity.

What the New Network Supports

The new long-distance network uses advanced fibre-optic technology to deliver strong and stable connections needed for modern technologies like:

  • Generative AI
  • Real-time AI processing
  • 5G
  • Large AI model training
  • Fast data transfers

These technologies require quick and uninterrupted data movement, which this network enables.

Leaders Speak on the Partnership

Genius Wong, CTO at Tata Communications, said this is their largest-ever national network program. He explained that the partnership with AWS will help drive the future of AI in India by providing a strong and custom-built network infrastructure.

According to Wong, “We are building a network not just for today, but for the future. This will help India stay ahead in the AI revolution.”

Jesse Dougherty, Vice President at AWS, also shared his thoughts. He said AWS is happy to work with Tata to build a network that supports next-gen workloads like AI, 5G, and cloud computing. He added that this move will help AWS customers across India innovate faster and grow in the digital economy.

What This Means for India’s AI and Cloud Ecosystem

This new network will help speed up the use of AI across sectors like:

  • Healthcare
  • Banking
  • Retail
  • Education

With faster data routes, companies will see reduced delays and better system performance, which is crucial for real-time tasks and large-scale AI model training.

It also supports India’s broader goal of becoming a global AI hub, offering infrastructure that’s ready for future technologies such as 5G and edge computing.

Tata Communications and AWS are connecting three of India’s major cities with a powerful backbone. This move is helping shape the future of AI and cloud innovation in India.
