Metomic, in partnership with Harris Interactive, surveyed over 400 CISOs and security leaders in the US and UK. The results revealed a surprising gap between confidence and preparedness. While 90% of leaders said they trusted their organization’s security systems and 91% believed employee training was successful, the reality painted a different picture.
Over 68% of organizations experienced data leaks from employees sharing sensitive information with AI tools, yet only 23% had proper AI-specific security policies in place. Furthermore, Ben van Enckevort, co-founder and CTO of Metomic said,

Our research shows that employees using AI applications without proper guardrails are unwittingly exposing sensitive company data at an alarming rate. Cybersecurity Leaders Need a Culture Shift
The report also highlights that 80% of CISOs believe their biggest challenge in 2025 will be building a stronger security culture. This challenge spans across their entire organization. As AI adoption grows, so do the complexity and pressure on security teams.
Metomic emphasizes that security can’t be achieved with tools alone. It must also include employee awareness, leadership commitment, and a proactive culture that prioritizes data protection. Van Enckevort explained,

It’s about taking security awareness to a whole new level where it is continuous, contextual and embedded into daily workflows.”
