Paytm Launches Custom UPI IDs to Protect Mobile Number Privacy
Paytm has introduced a new feature that lets users create personalised UPI IDs, so they can make payments without sharing their mobile numbers. This move aims to improve privacy during UPI transactions.
Users can now choose a unique UPI handle like yourname@ptyes or yourname@ptaxis, depending on their bank. Yes Bank and Axis Bank currently offer this feature, and Paytm will add more banks soon.
To create a personalised UPI ID, users need to go to ‘UPI Settings’ by tapping the profile icon in the app. From there, they choose and confirm their custom UPI ID, and the app uses it for all future payments.
A Paytm spokesperson shared: “We launched personalised UPI IDs to give users more control and privacy. Many users didn’t want to share their phone numbers while making payments, so we created this option to meet that need.”
Alongside this, Paytm has rolled out other helpful features to improve how people manage and track their payments. These include the ability to hide or unhide transactions, expense tracking tools, monthly summaries, and widgets with money alerts and QR payments.
Paytm has added the auto top-up option for its UPI Lite service, while users now have the option to download UPI statements for an expense record.
Furthermore, Paytm intends to expand its UPI services to other parts of the world for Indian travelers. The service is currently accepted in countries such as UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, among others.
